asianweekly

At a recent independent fashion designer show, Unzipped! Korean American Kelly Chon is the designer of her own clothing line, Composure, based in Seattle and carried by several local stores.

After graduating from the Art Institute of Seattle, Chon worked

for Nordstrom as an assistant designer for the brand Halogen and

worked her way up to designer in lingerie. Her training in lingerie

shows: Composure pieces are slinky and frilly, yet comfortable.

Chon said that although it’s always hard to start a business and

it’s especially “challenging to build a brand that is still different

enough to what’s already out there,” one of the things she enjoys

most about starting her own line is working for herself.

Chon names Vera Wang as a particular role model, not

only because of her creativity, but also for her business savvy.
