But at least women have a right to choose something other than culottes — now that local clothing line Shi Golf has hit the links.

The dresses, tops, and bottoms are traditional enough to accommodate stuffy club rules though still super cute. The crew-neck sweater goes from work to Interbay with ease, the V-neck vest was made for sipping Arnold Palmers, and the low-waist dress says you’re way too discerning to diddle the pro.

The clothes are made from ultra-breathable fabrics, which means they’re almost as soft and body conscious as cashmere.

So don’t burn your sports bra just yet.

Before all you non-golfers out there see the headline and pass up this review because you don’t golf-STOP! This attire is not just for those that swing the irons.

Shi-golf is INSPIRED by golf to create a preppy apparel for all, but, the quality and classy threads can be worn on or off the greens.

Urban leisure at its best really. The sweaters are soft and form perfectly to your body. Sometimes with sweaters they are too bulky with wide lines, but, this collection has shapely cuts that have a great fit. They aren’t snug, yet, they shape you. Perhaps it is the tailored lines and amazing fabric that make the sweaters fit so well.
I like the vest sweater the best. It goes perfectly with t-shirts or button down shirts. The color is a beautiful muted color that can go with just about anything. It is a bit longer which makes it nice for comfort and style. It is nice knowing I won’t have to pull down my shirt to cover that 1 inch gap I always seem to have between shirt and pants. It gives me great comfort knowing I won’t have to tug it down all day. This vest sweater is great for casual or dress up– depending on what you wear underneath the vest.

The other sweater I tried was the 3/4 sleeve length black and white sweater with white piping down the side. This sweater can take you into all seasons with its basic black & white color and comfortable fabric. The dropped scoop neckline and 3/4 sleeve make it a very universal sweater. You can wear it alone during the warmer months, and then when the colder months hit just layer it up!

Both sweaters were easy to wash and kept their tailored lines wash after wash. Sometimes things stretch and don’t fit quite the same after you wash it, but, not here. Looks like the sweater was tailored just for my body. I was curious about the fit on someone else, so I had my sister try it on and though our bodies are different-it looked great on her too…looked like she had her own tailored made sweater as well. I’m not a golfer, but Shi Golf, a line of golf-inspired clothing from local designer Kelly Su, sure makes me wish I were. Shi Golf’s first collection, Urban Leisure, is adorable, filled with dresses, skirts, sweaters, pants and tops that translate well on and off the green.

Su, a graduate of the Art Institute of Seattle’s fashion design program, began golfing three years ago as a way to spend more time with her husband. After spending a few games on the sidelines, she began to hone her own putting skills, often golfing with her girlfriends on the weekends.

A fashionista at heart, Su noticed a dearth of cute yet sporty golf clothing for the next generation of young female golfers. Eager to look chic on the fairway — and out for lunch or drinks after the game — Su created Shi Golf as a way to fill that niche.

Launched last spring, Urban Leisure is a flirty, cheeky collection. I’m particularly enamored of the V-neck sweaters ($128-$138), made from a soft stretch cotton that comes in cool shades of pink, black, gray, ice blue and white. Pair one with the blue or pink plaid Aberdeen skirt ($69), and you’ll be the most stylish girl on or off the links.

Wide-legged, low-rise stretch cotton chinos ($130) and kicky capris ($125) go well with sleeveless Polo shirts ($72) layered under striped trim crew neck sweaters ($138). I also love the dresses, and am amazed that something inspired by sportswear could look so chic. The black Stretch Cotton Dress with a daring faux wrap neck and pleated skirt ($129) would fit in well at any cocktail party.

Su has thought of everything with this line, offering Shi Golf visors for $26, as well as a whole line of golfing accessories, including golf club head covers ($100), a tee bag ($24), a shoe bag ($50) and a belt that come in pink and brown polka dots. At a recent independent fashion designer show, Unzipped! Korean American Kelly Chon is the designer of her own clothing line, Composure, based in Seattle and carried by several local stores.

After graduating from the Art Institute of Seattle, Chon worked

for Nordstrom as an assistant designer for the brand Halogen and

worked her way up to designer in lingerie. Her training in lingerie

shows: Composure pieces are slinky and frilly, yet comfortable.

Chon said that although it’s always hard to start a business and

it’s especially “challenging to build a brand that is still different

enough to what’s already out there,” one of the things she enjoys

most about starting her own line is working for herself.

Chon names Vera Wang as a particular role model, not

only because of her creativity, but also for her business savvy.

Composure Clothing
